Infirmary Ball
We met at the Infirmary Ball
White gowns and bracelets and all
We supped on sweet potato puree
I balanced you on my rickety knee
We danced as well as we could
We were actually pretty good
Fluorescent lights buzzed above us
The band couldn't help but love us
I never felt we were rushing things
Even later when we exchanged our rings
It's years since I was menopausal
I've got no time for reappraisal
We met at the Infirmary Ball
White gowns and bracelets and all
I balanced you on my rickety knee
Because you were even sicker than me |
And it's hard for me to listen
To the news of your condition
It's harder still for me to think
That I somehow pushed you past the brink
I love you at least today
And forever is not that far way
In here we do what we can
And you weren't bad for a sick old man
We met at the Infirmary Ball
White gowns and bracelets and all
We supped on sweet potato puree
I balanced you on my rickety knee
I balanced you on my rickety knee |
